Amber Trails Community School
The Winnipeg suburb of Amber Trails was the big winner of the provinces $69.2-million new school construction funding plans. Bockstael Construction broke ground in June 2013 on construction of a new 86,000 square foot, Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. The school has a total occupancy of 775 students and staff. In keeping with the province’s commitment to provide parents with reliable, quality child care, Amber Trails Community School also features a daycare. There was extensive work to be done outside the school as well, and includes a baseball diamond, soccer field, basketball court, play areas, a bus loop and on-site pathways as part of the finished project. The school opened for its first students in January 2015. Amber Trails marks Manitoba’s first LEED Platinum certified school, as well as Canada’s second LEED Platinum certified school.
