Response to TRC Call to Action 92

September 30, 2021 | Community, News

On the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we acknowledge that Bockstael Construction is located on Treaty 1 land in Manitoba – the homeland of the Métis Nation and traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininiwak, Ininiwak, Dakota, Dene, and Inuit. We acknowledge and honour these Nations as well as Shoal Lake 40 in Treaty 3 territory, which is the primary water source for Winnipeg and who ended a 1997 boil water advisory on September 15, 2021.

It is the view of Bockstael Construction that we cannot live up to the name “Manitoba’s Builder” without intentional effort and action toward reconciling with Indigenous communities and the TRC’s Call to Action 92. We have taken steps in this process and we have much more to learn. We are committed to contributing toward the future of our region within and beyond the reaches of construction.

We will respond to the call to action by providing opportunities for our employees to learn about Indigenous history and culture; by working with and supporting Indigenous organizations as they grow and build; by creating opportunities in construction for a strong Indigenous workforce – both within our organization and in the industry as a whole; and to support non-profit organizations that improve the health and livelihoods of Indigenous communities.
