Charleswood Library Development
The redeveloped Charleswood Library is a one-storey renovation and front entry addition to existing commercial rental units at the Charleswood Square strip mall, originally build in 1977. The roof was strengthened and a pop-up clerestory window and Solar-Tubes were added to bring daylight to the library’s interior. Windows were also cut into the load-bearing masonry exterior walls and a loading dock was demolished and infilled. The new library is triple the size of its predecessor and offers users a brighter space and more programming opportunities for all ages. Features include a children’s area complete with an indoor tree, teen space, a fireplace lounge area, more computers for public use, increased study space, a tutorial room and a dedicated program room.
